Cicero Digital signs for Ricoh Pro™ C9110 and Ricoh Pro™ C7110 at Drupa 2016

Norwegian print service provider Cicero Digital and Graphic has signed for a Ricoh Pro™ C9110 heavy duty colour cut sheetfed printer and a Ricoh Pro™ C7110 digital colour cut sheetfed press.

The deal, signed on Ricoh’s drupa 2016 stand in Hall 8a, also includes a full Plockmatic finishing line that will run inline with the Pro C9110 to deliver complete solutions with fewer human touchpoints.

It follows an internal restructuring that resulted in the decision to focus on digital production. The new installations will replace one of its offset press.

Owner Arne Bulow-Berntzen says: “With the new presses we will be able to be more efficient with fewer people. We will produce more of our offset work on digital and that will make us more cost-effective on short run work.”

He explains the reasoning behind choosing the two presses: “The Ricoh Pro C9110 will be our day-to-day production press for the majority of our corporate print. Running inline with the Plockmatic solution means we can let it run, print and finish complete products with no operator intervention.

“With the ability to produce banners up to 700mm in length, and its fifth unit, the Ricoh Pro C7100 will allow us to deliver more creative results and so will be focussed on more value added print production.”

The Cicero business was established in 1964. Cicero Digital and Graphic offers digital and offset print and prides itself on quality, service, flexibility and security of supply. The E1m turnover operation works with corporate clients as well as associations and public sector operations.

It is Cicero’s first Ricoh investment and Bulow-Berntzen explains: “We chose them largely on the references we have heard. I know many printers in Norway and the ones running Ricoh systems are very satisfied. They especially like the technology behind the print quality.”

As for the impact he expects the investment to have, he comments: “At the start of the year we thought our annual turnover would be 6.5m Norwegian Kroner but we are already expecting it to be more than Norwegian Kroner 10m and the new presses will drive this even further.”

Peter Williams, Executive Vice President, Production Printing, Ricoh Europe, adds: “Buying a press with Ricoh is only the start of our relationship. We are very keen to help Cicero grow their business as they focus on digital production print.”

The Pro C9110 runs at speeds up to 130ppm. It supports uncoated, textured and coated media up to 400gsm, as well as duplexed long sheet printing up to 700mm and even speciality media, such as super-gloss, magnetic, transparent and synthetic.

An enhanced version of Ricoh’s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology provides image quality up to 1200 x 4800 dpi while high colour consistency is assured by Ricoh’s automatic image feedback technology that provides continuous colour density calibration.

A liquid cooling system for continuous printing, enhanced ORUs (Operator Replaceable Units) and toner bottles, and media changes on the fly ensure maximum up time.

The highly productive Pro C7100 delivers print speeds up to 90ppm and supports media up to 360gsm.  It too achieves optimum image quality up to 1200 x 4800 dpi with Ricoh’s VCSEL technology.

It assures a premium finish, and supports an extensive range of media, including textured, and enables many different applications such as light packaging, demo packaging, direct mail, books, brochures and business cards. A key feature of the Pro™ X series is its fifth colour station allowing clear gloss or white applications, offering print services providers significant additional revenue opportunities. It can also produce banners up to 700mm in length.

EDC Expert (former Emerson DC) invests in Eastern Europe’s first Ricoh Pro™ VC60000

EDC Expert is the first print service provider in Eastern Europe to invest in a Ricoh Pro™ VC60000 continuous feed production inkjet platform.

The Polish specialist in transactional mail, promotional mail, multichannel communication, fulfilment and logistics is the largest wholly independent letter shop in Central and Eastern Europe.

With an annual turnover of E15m, EDC Expert works with the retail sector, and with automotive, financial, and telecommunications companies as well as NGOs. In addition to Polish companies, it has clients in Germany, Austria, France, Great Britain, France and other European countries. EDC Expert has 200 employees.

Flexible production
The requirement to be flexible prompted the investment. Piotr Rogut, Vice-President EDC Expert Direct Communication, says, “Because we are working to address our clients’ needs as effectively as possible, we decided to invest in a press that allows us to expand our offerings and reduce costs for low volume orders. Implementation of roll-fed digital inkjet is crucial to being able to do this. We can now print transactional or advertising materials on standard paper, without any pre-treatment or the need for more expensive inkjet-treated papers. This means the entire printing process is faster and less expensive.”

Rogut felt the Pro VC60000 was the best print production system to support the company’s growth strategy, saying, “After a thorough analysis of the solutions available on the market, we chose the Ricoh VC60000. This device best meets our expectations and needs. We liked the quality of the print output and the flexibility of the press. It allows us to reduce our lead times, especially for smaller volume jobs. We can deliver high quality final products faster and at a reduced cost. What more could you ask?”

The investment was made to support its broad array of services while retaining clients and looking to address new market sectors.

European roll call
Benoit Chatelard, Vice President, Production Printing, Ricoh Europe, says, "EDC Expert is joining a growing roll call of leading European printers that are embracing the printing capabilities of the Pro VC60000 to reinforce their market position and open up new growth opportunities. These include progressive companies across  Europe.”

The Pro VC60000 is capable of producing nearly 100,000 A4 images per hour. It reduces make ready time and speeds up turnaround, maximises operational efficiency and allows greater control of costs. It provides a function-rich total solution for customers new to digital colour and for those who want to consolidate and streamline their operations to grow their businesses. It will enable commercial production printers, in-house operations and service bureaux to move a growing volume of graphic art applications to high quality digital devices.

Rogut concludes, “The Ricoh VC60000 is a highly advanced press that provides unique quality. It will have a big impact on our business.”

Magneet orders second Ricoh Pro™ C9110 press at Drupa 2016

Dutch commercial print service provider Magneet Communicatiecentrum has ordered a second Ricoh Pro™ C9110 heavy duty digital colour sheetfed press. The deal was signed on Ricoh’s drupa 2016 stand in Hall 8a.

The E2.5m turnover operation chose the press following its purchase of its first Pro C9110 printer 18 months ago. It also has a Ricoh Pro™ C907EX and a Ricoh Pro™ L4160 large format printer.

Managing Director Mathieu Levens says: “The first Pro C9110 has been a great production machine. It is fast, efficient and versatile. This made choosing the second easy.”

It will also help the business hit a double digit growth target he states: “For the first half of the year we are 5% up on the previous year and we hope to reach 10% for the full 12 months.”

Among its client base, the business counts marketing agencies and brands such as Famous Grouse. It also works in the education sector and produces a wide range of school materials: “We need to produce a lot of documentation but the run lengths can vary from one, two or three to thousands,” he says. “We are growing and with its 130ppm we will be faster. It offers us more stability. Having two presses increases our capacity but also maximises uptime.”

Also important was Magneet’s relationship with Ricoh. “That was a good part of the decision. When you are investing in a press you are making a decision that will impact the business for at least the next four to five years. You want to have the confidence that you know it will go well.”

Graham Moore, Director, Business Development, Ricoh Europe said: “This is the fourth Ricoh solution we have installed at Magneet and a testament to both the quality and performance of Ricoh’s systems. We are delighted to support Magneet as it seeks to continue to grow the business.”

The Ricoh Pro C9100 series runs at speeds up to 130ppm. It supports uncoated, textured and coated media up to 400gsm, as well as duplexed long sheet printing up to 700mm and even speciality media, such as super-gloss, magnetic, transparent and synthetic.

An enhanced version of Ricoh’s Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser technology provides image quality up to 1200 x 4800 dpi while high colour consistency is assured by Ricoh’s automatic image feedback technology which provides continuous colour density calibration.

Maximum uptime is delivered via a liquid cooling system for continuous printing, enhanced ORUs (Operator Replaceable Units) and toner bottles, and media changes on the fly.

Ecograf invests in its quality service by ordering two Ricoh Pro™ C9110 presses at Drupa 2016

Ecograf is to enhance its production capability and quality service following its order of two Ricoh Pro™ C9110 heavy duty digital colour sheetfed presses. The deal was signed on Ricoh’s drupa 2016 stand in Hall 8a.

The five-year-old Danish digital print operation has a turnover of €1.5m. It provides a broad range of general commercial print services, with the fashion industry a key sector for it.

Lars Christensen, Ecograf Sales Director, says: “We invested in Ricoh because of the quality of the print. The device’s productivity was very important too. We were also able to take some of the glossiness out of the colours and that was very important, particularly for the high-end fashion companies we work with.

“Also because of its productivity, it will have a high impact on the success of the business. It will make us more cost competitive and productive too. I expect it to help us increase our turnover by about 20%.”

The sale was agreed through local Ricoh agent X & Co and Christensen adds: “We are very happy with the relationship we have with Ricoh and the service from X & Co.”

Graham Moore, Director, Business Development, Ricoh Europe said: “We are delighted that Ecograf wants to invest in not one, but two, of our Pro C9110s. They have some exciting clients with specific demands and our presses are perfectly suited to meet their short run, high quality expectations.”
