A video installation in a small shop in Brussels

Andersson and Brečević have placed their work in a small store, L’épicerie, in the Rue Keyenveld in Brussels - premiering the installation meanwhile-ondertussen-entretemps. This responsive video installation is part of the series På lut (Father and Son Verging) portraying fathers and sons. The exhibition titled „meanwhile-ondertussen-entretemps“ will be running from 28/4 to 31/05.

nadine describe themselves as „a transdisciplinary laboratory for contemporary artists, a place where innovative work can be created, supported, and presented“. nadine wants to provide continuous support for innovative projects that need the right context in which they can thrive. By developing its own methodology for artistic research and explicitly focusing on the artistic process, nadine wants to question the present production practice of the arts sector and join artists in their quest for an open and flexible structure that can incorporate both internal questioning and wider external communication.

With their work, Andersson and Brečević have occupied shopping centers, factories and other spaces outside of the usual gallery spaces. Through the artists' eyes, the gallery has changed shape and can be constructed anywhere: in empty laundromats, desolate suburban squares, shop windows, and shopping centers. Their installations “live” at their exhibition spaces, in pace with their surroundings, and move from stasis to agile, depending on the encompassing curiosity. There is a give-and-take between the artwork and the spectator; the observer completes the work with his or her presence.

The greengrocer and his son were the models for the installation, the purpose of which is to bring irregular images into the public space to temporarily shake people free from their routines. The work of Andersson and Brečević is about the fragile and the humane, about what isn’t allowed onto the billboards littering public space.

Father and son, one of them verging, are waiting for You to mirror yourself in what’s deviant. Let’s pretend everything is normal, until a third party, someone else, watches and expresses…the opposite. The coexistence is self-evident: two pair of feet steadily rooted in the ground they stand on. The place is the same, the origin as well … yet they see different things, gravitate away from each other.
