It’s the Italian Heinzpeter Platter who will take over as head coach for the Swedish alpine men’s team from 1st of July, with an agreement that continue until 2019, till after the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre.

48-year-old Platter is resident in Italy, specifically Mals Bolzano, together with his Swedish wife and two sons. He has devoted most of his life to the alpine sport, both as a member of the Italian national team the years 1984-1994, and after that as a coach for both the Swedish national team, together with Pernilla Wiberg, Ylva Nowén, Anna Ottosson and Anja Pärson, and in the Italian and Canadian national teams. - I'm very motivated to this job, I want to share my experiences and help to build up the team from below to get a strong group of athletes for the home World Championships in Åre 2019, says Heinzpeter Platter.

The past five years, Heinzpeter has worked as sales manager at Leitner-Rope Ways that produces lift systems; this work has given him invaluable contacts in Europe. - I want to organise optimal training conditions with high quality without stress, to get peace and quiet in the team, with my contacts I hope I can reach that goal, continues Heinzpeter.

Even during his time away from practicing the profession Heinzpeter was very active in the sport of skiing, partly as technical delegate for the International Ski Federation in competitions including Kitzbühel and St. Moritz. - We have a very good slalom-team for the men, Mattias Hargins victory in Kitzbühel was fantastic, but Sweden needs to become better and stronger in the giant slalom and the speed disciplines. Sweden is a small ski nation and if we stick together and utilize the energy right, we can beat anyone, says Platter.

- We are very pleased with this recruitment, Heinzpeter has a fantastic network of contacts in Europe when it comes to facilities and training opportunities for our men’s team, and we believe that Heinzpeter will be able to raise the men another level to its development. It will be exciting to see what the coming season will bring, hopefully with many podiums. Last season there were a lot of regular top-ten for the men, but the little bit of extra to step up at the podium was missing, says sports director Anders Sundqvist.
