Stockholm's only ICA Maxi store within the city borders will become self-sufficient in case of leafy greens, herbs and spices as they choose to go forward with Swegreen's unique In-Store farming solution. Construction is in full swing and cultivation is calculated be up and running already in August.

- At Ica Maxi Lindhagen we have high ambitions and are want to always be at the forefront. Both when it comes to offering our customers a broad range of products but also an experience beyond the ordinary. By investing in our new InStore farm, we project that sustainability is a priority for us, says Ica Maxi Lindhagen's store manager and franchiser Fredrik Rister.

Aware and conscious consumers are a driving force

The partnership between Swegreen and Ica Maxi Lindhagen makes the store the first grocery stores within the custom tolls of central Stockholm which offers hyper-locally produced crops, grown from seed to fully-grown plant inside the store itself to its customers.

With this digitally-monitored, climate-smart In-store cultivation unit, Ica Maxi Lindhagen will be able to offer daily harvested fresh vegetables all-year-round to its customers. Fresh greens that are climate-smartly grown inside the store with zero transportation involved.

- Our customers are very conscious consumers who like to add locally produced and healthy food in the shopping cart. It does not get any more proximate than this to them, as now they will be able to grocery shop and buy vegetables which are grown on site and in the store. And in addition, produced in such a climate-smart and sustainable way, adds Fredrik Rister.

Adding a sustainability upper-hand to our customers' offering

- Food sold in Swedish retail stores has often traveled several thousand kilometers before it end up on the end consumers' plate, while our greens have not been transported at all. Aside from this, our advanced growing technology enables producing crops with better quality, shelf-life and texture - and even better taste and a higher nutritional value, says Swegreen's CEO Pierre Mohlin.

Construction on Ica Maxi Lindhagen is in full swing and cultivation is expected to begin production crops in August already.

- We at Swegreen are enormously happy and proud that we together with Ica Maxi Lindhagen are establishing the first fully-automated and controlled In-store farming unit within the Stockholm central borders. A good and green news for all Stockholmers we assume, Pierre concludes.
