Frankfurt, Germany, [September 26th, 2024] – SweGreen is proud to announce that it has won the Best Resource Efficiency prize at the Vertical Farming World Awards 2024. The award ceremony took place during a Gala Dinner at the 5th annual Vertical Farming World Congress in Frankfurt on 25 September.

The awards, organized by global food and drink experts Zenith Global Ltd, celebrate excellence and innovation across the global vertical farming industry, with entries across 11 categories covering crops, technology, sustainability, and commercial initiatives. Joakim Rytterborn, SweGreen’s Chief Technologist, was present to receive the award at the gala.

SweGreen was recognized for its Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Project for the SAGA platform, conducted in collaboration with the KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL), supervised by Professor Michael Martin. The project set four global records in the vertical farming sector, including:

Lowest CO2 emissions and Footprint per kilogram of lettuce produced

Lowest energy consumption (kWh) per kilogram of lettuce

Lowest water usage, with just 1.3 liters per kilogram of production

Outstanding production efficiency, setting a new standard for yield per lighted square meter

Sepehr Mousavi, Chief Innovation Officer at SweGreen, commented: “This award is a huge achievement for our team and reflects our dedication to pushing the boundaries of sustainable farming technology. By setting new global records with our SAGA platform, we are leading the way in resource efficiency and transparency in the vertical sector. Sustainability data is key to building trust in the food industry, and we’re committed to staying at the forefront of this movement."

The SAGA platform is designed to meet the increasing demand for sustainable, locally produced food with minimal resource use. Already in use by the major Swedish retailer players such as ICA, Coop, and Hemköp, as well as European retail giants EDEKA in Germany, SAGA represents a breakthrough in sustainable, in-store farming.

This award highlights SweGreen’s ongoing commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in urban and hyper-local food production, while setting new benchmarks for transparency and efficiency in vertical farming.
