TeliaSonera International Carrier and Hibernia combine to bring content closer to customers
Leading network infrastructure and services provider TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) today announced a strategic partnership with Hibernia, creating an extensive fiber-based media network. Hibernia Media will acquire TSIC’s MediaConnect business, while TSIC’s award-winning fiber backbone will form the core of the new network.
“The mixture of our on-net media PoPs and venues in the US, with TeliaSonera International Carrier’s added reach to a broad market in Europe, gives our customers extraordinary access to content origination, aggregation, and distribution channels over a robust fiber backbone,” says Bjarni Thorvardarson, Chief Executive Officer for Hibernia Atlantic.
TSIC owns and operates one of the world’s largest fiber backbones, a crucial element in what will now be one of the world’s largest 100 percent QoS networks. Both TSIC and Hibernia Media have based their media networks on the same NetInsight NIMBRA MSR platform, allowing for a seamless and smooth integration. This will enable Hibernia Media to offer mass scalability, instantly creating a footprint across Europe and North America.
“There is real synergy between both TeliaSonera International Carrier and Hibernia Media, in terms of existing network and back-office capabilities. This strategic partnership drives value creation for both companies while enabling TSIC to focus on its core capabilities,” says Erik Hallberg, President of TeliaSonera International Carrier.
TSIC was an early mover in offering fiber-based broadcast media solutions. It has a successful track record in live broadcasts of major sporting events such as Wimbledon and the NHL, and was most recently the exclusive provider at Aberdeen House for the London Olympics (supporting 13 broadcasters). Experience such as this gives it a vital edge in providing infrastructure and services to media network providers globally.
