TietoEnator to deliver its rewarded surgical treatment management system to the Central Finland Healthcare District
TIETOENATOR CORPORATION PRESS RELEASE 18 NOVEMBER 2002 9.00 AM 1(1) TietoEnator to deliver its rewarded surgical treatment management system to the Central Finland Healthcare District TietoEnator will launch a new surgical treatment management system in the Finnish market that will improve the planning and monitoring of surgical resources and enhance the management of surgery queues. The system is already being used in 15 hospitals in Sweden, and the Swedish central trade union LO rewarded it as the best IT solution of the year in May. In Finland, the system will be included in TietoEnator's Effica product family for healthcare. As the first Finnish institute, the Central Finland Healthcare District will pilot the new system in the Jyväskylä city hospital. The system will be integrated into the hospital's patient data system Musti. The District Director of surgical treatment services, Jukka-Pekka Mecklin, and Medical Intendent Teuvo Antikainen who is responsible for this project, believe that the new system will enable more efficient planning and monitoring of operations, as well as better management of queues, as it makes it possible to evaluate and reserve the necessary resources - time, staff, premises and equipment - in real time. Furthermore, the new system allows real-time status monitoring of all the 22 operating rooms and recovery rooms. - This surgical treatment system will be an important management tool for us. Surgery queues are a big issue today - yet the main problem about them is that the present IT systems keep the queues passive. However, the new system is able to pick patients from the queue by, for instance, the operating doctor or their domicile, and thus easily find out which patients can be called in for surgery at short notice, Jukka- Pekka Mecklin states. TietoEnator has launched a similar project with the healthcare districts of South Ostrobothnia, Päijät-Häme and Kainuu, all of which deploy the Effica patient data system.
