“Go local, look at tourism a bit like the way Thai people do.”, Per Sundberg.

Per has been living a life like a local for over 30 years. Now his home with his family is in Chiangmai, city in the north of Thailand. In addition to his profession as a travel consultant, Per Sundberg runs a personal blog where he shares his in-depth knowledge of travel in Thailand.

He points out the important to be respectful of Thai culture and customs. Prepare some clothes for nice occasions like when you are going out to eat or visiting the temple. Thailand is hot but you need more than shorts and sandals. Thailand is a great place to try new things such as hiking, biking and different kind of food. Traveling like a local give you the benefit of seeing Thailand differently such as camping and enjoying the local way of barbeque. His favorite time to travel in Thailand is in “green season” or raining season (May/June-October) where he visits Phu Chi Fah to see the sunrise over the green mountains and the Mekong River. Tale Noi in Phatthalung, located in the south, is another of his recommendation. There, you can catch the sunrise on a boat ride to see the traditional fishermen, the lotus lake, and the water buffalos.

“Thai people are so helpful. That’s actually what I love about traveling in Thailand”, Kristian Levinsen

Kristian Levinsen moved to Thailand eight years ago and founded a chocolate company with a sustainable practice with local farmers in Chiang Mai. He suggests Thailand is a good place to take a step back and relax, and don’t need to stress.

According to Kristian, coming to Thailand is the easiest thing in the world because, first, the food is amazing, and everywhere is easy and convenient; there are always ways to solve any problem. Thai people are so helpful and friendly.  Don’t forget to bring an international driver’s license, especially if you want to drive or ride on motorbikes. A road trip is a great way to explore Thailand and discover small town off the tourist path. Kanchanaburi and all the waterfalls is his first recommendation. The province of Nan in the North is also one of his favorites in all of Thailand. Because it is insanely beautiful and not many foreign tourists know about that area. Krabi is very serene with all the national parks and beaches.  For the food lover, Massaman curry is the dish you should not miss. He also has a few hints on the souvenir to bring home such as Thai “Lanna” fabrics, Thai tea and Thai chocolate.

“Thailand is pretty safe. The food here tastes so fresh. There’s just a good vibe everywhere.”, Miabell Mallikka Smedegaard

Though this is Miabell’s first time visiting Thailand, she has fallen in love with the country and its people. After two months of living in Bangkok, she decided to extend her time so she would get to know and experience Thailand to the fullest.

Every day is special here and she loves to go out and explore Bangkok. There is so much to do from visiting the temples, walking on the backstreets along the canal of Khaosan Road, to the night out at the rooftop bars.  Transportation in Bangkok is also very convenient. She recommends the Grab application where foreigners don’t have to discuss the price, and don’t have to study the route. And if you want to go downtown, then use the BTS sky train to avoid traffic. Tuk Tuk is a perfect fun way for bar-hopping at night with friends.  The food here tastes so fresh and is very good in price. She obsessed with green curry especially the vegetarian green curry and highly recommended.  Cost of living is cheap, her advice is to do some research on prices but at the same time, be reasonable. Also wandering around night or weekend markets would make the whole experience of getting the souvenirs most authentic as well.
