The Transatlantic Ice Council is an international advisory board, established independently from Transatlantic, whose objective is to provide advice on ice management and icebreaking based on the collective experience of its members.

The Transatlantic Ice Council is funded by Transatlantic, but is an independent body with its own agenda. Its chairman is Anders Backman, former head of the Swedish Maritime Administration's icebreaking services and an internationally recognized expert on Arctic marine operations.

The first open session of the Transatlantic Ice Council will be held in June in connection with POAC 09, the 20th International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions, in Luleå, Sweden.
