Munich, October 27, 2010 – WACKER will present a new line of services for the silicone-processing industry at the 18th Inter-national Trade Fair for Plastics and Rubber K 2010 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The Munich-based chemical corporation will be intro-ducing a color mixing system based on a systematic portfolio of high quality pigment pastes and the use of a colorimeter with formulation development software. The system makes it possi-ble to develop color mixtures quickly and highly accurately. K 2010 will take place from October 27 to November 3.
The new pigment paste services range from creating client-specific color formulations to providing ready-to-use pigment paste mixtures. WACKER researchers use a colorimeter equipped with color formu-lation development software to recreate the client's desired color. The software suggests formulations for the desired color mixture – and the very first suggestion is often highly accurate. The result is a fast, efficient tool for reproducing colors.
WACKER has also reorganized its portfolio, expanding it into a sys-tematic palette of twenty basic colors that can be blended to cover roughly 80 percent of the entire color space. The properties of the pigment paste portfolio and of all types of rubber are stored in the formulation development software, which, together with the reorganized portfolio itself, allows processors to precisely fulfill most color requests.
The novel color mixing system is currently available for ELASTOSIL® LR liquid silicone rubbers. Customers can purchase either a ready-to-use pigment paste mixture or the formulation and the basic pigment pastes needed for the blend. This service allows silicone processors to respond quickly and flexibly to new color trends while at the same time considerably reducing their own workload.
The pigment pastes meet the highest quality standards, are compat-ible with WACKER rubber grades and do not modify the viscosity of the rubber compound. In addition, most of the pigment pastes meet the food-grade standards of Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
