WACKER utser ny distributör i Europa för biotekniska produkter inom "Personal Care"

Munich, September 3, 2012 – WACKER, the Munich-based chemical company, reorganizes its distribution network for its biotech products in Europe. As part of an ongoing optimization of WACKER’s distribution sales channels, Nordmann, Rassmann (NRC) is to be entrusted with the distribution of WACKER’s cyclodextrins, cystine and cysteine for personal care applications in most parts of Europe effective September 1, 2012.
NRC already distributes selected WACKER products for several market segments, such as silicones for the coatings and pharma industry. For applications in the field of personal care and cosmetics, NRC will from now on distribute WACKER’s biotechnically manufactured cyclodextrins, as well as vegetarian-grade cystine and cysteine in most parts of West and East Europe.
The chemical distributor NRC is an international distributor of chemical and natural raw materials, additives and specialty chemicals. The Hamburg-based company is operating primarily in Europe and supplies – among others – the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry, but also sectors such as construction, coatings, plastics or adhesives.
WACKER’s involvement in research and development related to biotechnologically manufactured products such as cyclodextrins began in the early 1980s. Today, WACKER is a global market leader in this segment. Cyclodextrins can be used in manifold applications in the personal care and cosmetics industry: They can, for instance, protect sensitive substances such as ethereal oils or vitamins in skin crèmes or shower gels effectively against sun light or air, preventing them from rapidly decomposing, oxidizing or developing unpleasant odors.
Further, WACKER is the world’s only company to produce vegetarian cystine and cysteine using an award-winning biotechnology process. The amino acid cysteine is used, for example, as an active ingredient for permanent wave preparations. Cysteine is also found in cosmetic products, where it scavenges and renders harmless the free radicals that cause cell damage.

Using advanced biotech processes, WACKER BIOSOLUTIONS provides tailored, innovative solutions and products to the life-science sector – including pharmaceutical proteins, cyclodextrins and fermentation-generated cysteine. Its portfolio is also complemented by catalog chemicals, such as acetylacetone and high-quality polyvinyl acetate solid resins. The division focuses on developing customized solutions for growth sectors, such as food additives, pharmaceutical actives and agrochemicals.
