The Vrije Universiteit Brussel has awarded a five-year contract to the IT and medical technology company Sectra (STO: SECT B) for the supply of a breast imaging PACS (system for handling diagnostic images for mammography). By providing instant access to images including relevant patient history, Sectra’s solution will allow the hospital to improve the quality of its services to women participating in the Belgian breast screening program.

“Sectra was the only vendor who had a proven desktop integration with the national screening IT system for handling patient information, which provides a smooth and efficient mammography workflow,” says Filip Verhelle, System Manager at the university hospital.

The solution will facilitate fast and highly efficient reading of screening mammograms which will improve the breast screening service to the 14,000 women examined each year.

Sectra Breast Imaging PACS is a web-based solution featuring advanced diagnostic tools, including integrated CAD and reporting, which offers a single-system reading environment for mammographers.  All digital breast images, regardless of modality vendor, are automatically displayed in the same size with correct orientation and alignment, facilitating comparison of current and prior images.
