Burnbank’s data sharing service honored with award for excellence in healthcare IT
Burnbank Systems, a member of the Sectra Group, has been voted the winner of a UK award program in the category “Outstanding work in healthcare imaging informatics”. This is the second award in two years presented to Burnbank Systems for its medical data sharing service, the Image Exchange Portal.
The Image Exchange Portal was originally procured by the Department of Health in the UK to provide a common system for exchanging diagnostic images between 120 healthcare providers across England. Through user engagement, it was enhanced to enable image transfers between the publicly funded UK national healthcare system (NHS) hospitals. It now regularly exceeds 7,000 studies per day and has more than 300 connected sites, with well over 7,000 users in the UK. The award was presented by eHealth Insider, a British website for healthcare IT news, in association with British Telecommunications plc.
User engagement and support has enabled Burnbank to develop the service in line with patient care, taking it from an administrative tool to replace CDs to a service that supports direct delivery of clinical care, particularly for acute out-of-hours care, including Stroke & Trauma.
Peter Young, Burnbank’s Managing Director said “This award recognizes the success of the service and the efforts of the users in supporting its development and deployment. This has ensured it meets the daily clinical requirements to improve patient care”.
