EU and Sectra sign framework agreement for secure telephony
The Council of the European Union in Brussels and Sectra have extended their framework agreement for Sectra’s Tiger encryption system, used to protect voice and data communication from eavesdropping. The agreement is valid until 2018 and covers professional services, maintenance and support for Sectra Tiger units in use within the Council and the European External Action Service.
“This past year’s eavesdropping disclosures and the rapid technological developments in mobile data and telecommunications have created a need for more secure communication systems. Unprotected telephone calls and messages represent a security threat for individuals, organizations and nations,” says Michael Bertilsson, President of Sectra Communications AB. “This vote of confidence from the EU Council confirms that we have lived up to their high demands in terms of security, usability and availability.”
Sectra’s Tiger solutions are used by decision-makers, officials and military personnel in 17 European countries. They can be used to make secure calls over telephone lines, GSM, 3G, ISDN and IP networks, as well as via satellite systems. In 2010, Sectra Tiger was chosen by the EU Council for secure telephony within the European Union. The Tiger system provides a platform where top-ranking EU officials, such as prime ministers, foreign affairs ministers and defense ministers, can meet with a guarantee of full integrity.
Sectra Tiger solutions are approved up to and including the SECRET classification level by both the EU and NATO, as well as several European national security agencies.
