First Sectra MicroDose Mammography system in clinical use in Germany; Women of Krefeld to benefit from world's lowest radiation doses Klinikum Krefeld is the first hospital in Germany to put Sectra MicroDose Mammography into full clinical operation. Sectra MicroDose Mammography - enabling an 80% reduction in radiation doses compared to traditional film-based systems - gives the women of Krefeld the opportunity to benefit from the lowest radiation doses in the world. Klinikum Krefeld is one of the first fully digitized mammography departments in Germany and has been using Sectra MicroDose Mammography in full clinical operation since mid-April. In addition to the full field digital mammography system, Klinikum Krefeld uses Sectra PACS for Breast Imaging, for image review, communication and storage. Professor Dr Fiedler, head of the radiology department at Klinikum Krefeld says, "With this new system we can examine women with significantly lower radiation doses than before, which is of great importance. We can also provide the women with faster diagnosis thanks to the efficient image handling and workflow support built into the system." With Sectra MicroDose Mammography, the breast images are available at the diagnostic workstation seconds after they are taken. In addition, with Sectra PACS for Breast Imaging, access to all old and new images is immediate. This combination facilitates efficient review and thus faster diagnosis. The direct digital system makes the cumbersome handling of cassettes and chemicals a thing of the past, improving the work environment substantially. "Klinikum Krefeld constitutes an important reference in our focus on the German mammography market," says Dr Andreas Keizers, president of Sectra's German operations. "Klinikum Krefeld is recognized as a pioneer in advancing technology and a very competent hospital. Their mammography department with state of the art technology in all modalities is a good example of how digital technology can be used to improve healthcare," he concludes. About Sectra MicroDose Mammography The unique digital mammography system Sectra MicroDose Mammography is based on a completely new detection technology allowing significantly lower doses of radiation without compromising image quality. The system was developed in close cooperation with mammography specialists to optimize ergonomic features and workflow. Since the fall of 2003 Sectra MicroDose Mammography has been in clinical use at Helsingborg Hospital, where over 7,000 women have been examined.
