Shelton, CT – February 9, 2011 – International medical technology company, Sectra (NASDAQ OMX Stockholm: SECT B), announces the recent upgrade of its Breast Imaging PACS to the latest version, IDS7/mx, at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), San Francisco, CA, and Elizabeth Wende Breast Care, LLC (EWBC), Rochester, NY. The response of both centers has been enthusiastically positive.

Elizabeth Wende Breast Care, LLC is a recognized center of excellence by other breast imaging centers and radiologists from across the USA.

Some of the IDS7/mx Breast Imaging PACS efficiency improvements that EWBC has cited include the following:

  • Improved overall workflow as a result of faster image display speeds, enhanced worklist management and additional software tools
  • Clearly demonstrated effective display of multi-modality images on a single softcopy workstation
  • Meets their requirements for double read workflow
  • Easier to manage administrative tools

EWBC performs over 100,000 exams annually using a full range of imaging modalities; Digital Mammography (FFDM FDA cleared systems), Breast MRI, Breast MRI CAD, Breast Ultrasound, Stereotactic Breast Biopsy, Dexa and CAD. EWBC is one of the few Women's Imaging Centers providing “Double Reads” of images for their patients, which has improved cancer detection and recall rates.

Sectra's partnership with UCSF’s Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging has enabled their women’s imaging section to achieve a filmless, digital environment with increased image transfer speed and access to archived images, allowance for disaster recovery and improved efficiency.

Since the upgrade to IDS7/mx, Dr. Bonnie Joe reported an improvement with radiologists’ workflow as a result of faster image distribution and image display quality, flexibility of the worklist and improved user interface in the web-based PACS.

“We chose Sectra Breast Imaging PACS for its ability to create customized integrations with our RIS, HIS, PACS, voice recognition, and mammography reporting systems,” said Bonnie N. Joe, M.D., Ph.D., Chief, Women's Imaging, Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at UCSF. “The ability to review breast US, MR digital mammography images and multiple priors at one time from a single workstation, and using RIS-generated worklists, has improved our workflow,” added Joe.
