Sectra has started collaboration with Kongsberg Defence Communications The Swedish IT and telecom company Sectra has started strategic collaboration with the Norwegian Company Kongsberg Defence Communications for worldwide sales and marketing of the eavesdrop-secure GSM-phone Tiger. "We see a major potential for eavesdrop-secure mobile telephony. Our new partner, Kongsberg, is an extremely well-renowned company, with a large existing customer base among international defence customers," says Per Unell, President of Sectra Communications AB. Kongsberg Defence Communications provides secure mobile communications systems for military use and is part of Norway's largest defense group, Kongsberg Group. The company's communications and crypto products are supplied to army and air defense programs throughout the world. Kongsberg Gruppen is an international technology group, which is represented in more than 20 countries. The Tiger system guarantees secure communications all the way from the transmitter to the receiver, for voice and data transmissions and SMS services. The telephone features integrated encryption and GSM technology, making it user-friendly. The Tiger system operates with a standard subscription in the public GSM network. Through connection of the fixed telenet, the telephone can be used in locations not reached by a GSM net. The Tiger is currently available in three versions. More than 900 of the first version, which was developed for military applications in cooperation with experts within the Swedish Armed Forces, have been ordered by the Swedish Armed Forces. The second is a national Norwegian version, developed specially for the Norwegian Armed Forces and the rules applied within NATO. The third is an international commercial version aimed at companies and organizations as well as the police, customs and other government authorities. The commercial version is used today by many international companies and has also been ordered by the United State European Command, a US Defense Department unified command.
