Sectra lands new order for digital X-ray from Gävleborg County Council Sectra Imtec AB has signed a contract with the Gävleborg County Council to complete the digitization of all radiology departments within the county healthcare system. The order is valued at approximately USD 1.2 million. The order comprises the Sectra PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) for processing of digital X-rays and referrals at the radiology departments in Gävle/Sandviken and Söderhamn. "We will now complete the work to digitize all of the County Council's radiology departments," says Chief Medical Officer Göran Iwar at the Gävle/Sandviken radiology clinic. The technology provides for more efficient information processing, which results in lower costs for the County Council and better care for patients. The digitized departments are linked through a countywide network. For example, an X-ray physician in Gävle can examine images taken in Hudiksvall and vice versa. Since all images are stored digitally, the patient's history is available to X-ray physicians, regardless of where the X-rays were taken. Service to referral physicians also increases since they have access via their web-browser to the records of the remitted patient, X-ray results and images, directly after the X-ray physician has reviewed the case. All components of the systems are expected to be in operation in the beginning of 2001, resulting in a linked, virtual radiology clinic throughout the county. For example, the new technology makes it possible for rural clinics to get immediate assistance from experienced X-ray physicians, while costs are lower than with film-based processing.
