Sectra launches radiology information system on the British market: Sectra receives first British order for complete radiology IT-system from Scottish hospital Sectra, the Swedish IT and medical company, has signed a seven-year contract with Dr. Gray's Hospital Elgin, Scotland, for an integrated radiology IT solution comprising Sectra's image management system (PACS) and radiology information system (RIS). "By introducing Sectra's radiology information system into the British market, we are now able to meet the British customers' demand for a fully integrated radiology IT-solution, comprising both RIS and PACS," says Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President of Sectra Imtec AB. "The UK and Scandinavian healthcare structures, and therefore the product demands put on a radiology information system, are very similar. This enables us to widen our offer to the British market in this way, and be confident that it will be an effective solution to the workflow and administration needs of UK Radiology Departments" Dr. Kronander concludes. Due to the major differences in the healthcare structures in various countries, Sectra RIS is only available on selected markets. On other markets Sectra cooperates with local RIS companies. Sectra PACS is sold on a worldwide basis. Dr. Gray's Hospital Elgin in Scotland is a district general hospital currently performing approximately 35,000 radiology examinations per year. Sectra will provide a complete radiology IT-solution, comprising the radiology information system (RIS) and the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) including Sectra's solution for orthopedic pre-operative planning. The order is valued to approximately £900,000. "We believe Sectra to be a long term partner as they have an extensive experience in digital radiology," says Mr George Simpson, Radiology manager at Dr. Gray's Hospital Elgin. "Sectra provides a well proven, tightly integrated total solution for digital radiology and we trust that Sectra's system gives us the possibility of enhancing the efficiency of our radiology operations," he adds. The Sectra solution will enable the radiology department at Dr. Gray's Hospital Elgin to work in an entirely film-free environment, and supports the move to a fully paper-free environment when the organisation makes the move to electronic requesting. The digital management of patient data and radiology images creates a more efficient workflow. This not only helps cut costs, but also enhances patient care, as referring physicians are able to obtain images and reports more quickly. The high level of security built into the system means the transition to digital radiology can take place without compromising patient integrity and security.
