Sectra´s breast imaging workstation receives FDA clearance for the US market Sectra, the Swedish IT and medical technology company, has received FDA approval of its workstation dedicated to breast imaging. "This approval is an important step in our focus on the US mammography market", says Dr. John Goble, President of Sectra North America Inc. "The highly regarded IDS5 workstation family has now been extended to meet the demanding workflow requirements of full field digital mammography, providing breast imaging specialists with true multi-modality capability", he adds. Tests of the breast imaging workstation have been performed in cooperation with the Elizabeth Wende Breast Clinic in Rochester, New York, USA. This center is very active with more than 70,000 mammography examinations per year and a number of different modalities, e.g. full field digital mammography systems, MRI and Ultrasound from several vendors. "Our philosophy is to tailor the diagnostic process to meet each patient's individual needs, providing breast imaging and diagnostic results before the patient leaves the clinic. Sectra's reviewing workstation streamlines our screening and diagnostic workflow, integrating all breast imaging modalities, including all currently approved FFDM units, Sonography and Breast MRI into a single PACS solution", says Margarita L. Zuley, M.D. at The Elizabeth Wende Breast Clinic. The FDA approved workstation is part of the Sectra PACS for Breast Imaging, a complete system for the processing and archiving of all digital images used in mammography. With the system, all necessary information, such as images and patient data, is made available at reviewing workstations. This permits for the radiologists to perform their work productively, cost-effectively and securely without compromising diagnostic quality or patient integrity. The workstation will support CAD (Computer Aided Detection) from the industry leader R2 using the innovative CSN (Clinical Solutions Network) framework.
