Sectra’s table for medical education awarded prestigious research prize
Sectra’s interactive visualization table has been awarded the Dirk Bartz Prize for Visual Computing in Medicine 2015. The prize is awarded by the Eurographics Association, which organizes a biennial competition to acknowledge the contribution that computer graphics is playing in the medical field.
Sectra’s visualization table is a large touch screen with an image viewing program. The 3D images are taken by modern computer tomography and magnetic resonance cameras. The students can simply zoom in, rotate or cut into the visualized body without using a scalpel or destroying the body. Accordingly, the same images can be used again and again, and the students can, for example, study the impact of various diseases on the anatomy in a manner that was previously impossible in training.
The award is presented to the following research partners who jointly developed the visualization table: C-research, Linköping University; the Interactive Institute Swedish ICT; the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV) and Sectra.
