Sectra sells new security product to UK government authorities The UK Ministry of Defence and Government Communications Headquarters have ordered Sectra's new security pouch for mobile phones, called Sectra Radio BlockerTM. The order includes delivery of over 3,000 units. The Sectra Radio Blocker has been developed by Sectra in conjunction with the UK national information assurance authority CESG (Communications-Electronics Security Group). Through CESG's Assisted Products Scheme (CAPS), the Radio Blocker pouch has been developed to allow mobile phones to be carried on restricted sites where radio transmitters are not allowed. The product is made from a unique radio suppression material, which stops all radio signals in the mobile phone frequency bands to and from a mobile phone whilst in the pouch. Tommy Waszkiewicz, President Sectra Communications AB says "This is our first development project in cooperation with UK government authorities and we look forward to a long-term relationship. The Radio Blocker is a very useful security product and I believe that it can also be of interest for our customers in other countries with similar high security awareness." Use of the Sectra Radio Blocker security pouch will increase the level of protection and efficiency of those with an operational need to have a mobile phone in restricted areas. The product also drastically reduces the requirements for the associated administration at site entry points at restricted areas such as Ministry of Defence or the security authorities. Mike Christie, Director of Sectra Communications Ltd, says "CESG's unique design solutions combined with our extensive knowledge in the identification and containment of unwanted radio signals, has resulted in the first product to meet CESG's new emerging standard for wireless technology screening products". As part of the process to be certified for use within the UK government authorities, the Radio Blockers have been extensively tested by CESG. The Radio Blocker is also available in larger sizes, which can be used for PDA's or laptop computers.
