Networks Telecom exhibition in Stockholm: Sectra shows new mobile Internet product Sectra is introducing its new product CitySurfer at the Networks Telecom exhibition at Stockholm International Fairs, September 20-22. The product is an advanced mobile information terminal in pocketsize, which makes it easy for users to receive selected web pages containing, for example, stock listings, traffic information, news, weather and sports results in a time-span of one second, regardless of their whereabouts within a country. The web pages are transmitted nationally via mobile data channels on the FM radio network. "In several respects, CitySurfer is an competitive alternative to the WAP phone," says Dick Ollas, President of Sectra Wireless Technologies AB. "The user is always online, 24 hours a day, and by using the conventional FM network, we can achieve national coverage. Since the channel can never be overloaded, the recipient can have information within a second. A sender can dispatch a message to an individual person, a group or the entire population. CitySurfer can also be of interest to such organizations as the emergency services, which need to quickly summon an emergency rescue group consisting of volunteers. Thanks to a high- resolution display, it is also possible to transmit maps, making it easy for users to find their way". Another area of use is the internal dissemination of information within companies and organizations, where some of the employees work out in the field. By using CitySurfer, they can keep up-to-date through such information as press releases that are broadcasted in real time. "We anticipate major potential both in Sweden and abroad, since the FM radio network is established throughout the world," says Dick Ollas. "In Sweden, we are collaborating with Teracom and Generic Mobile Systems, which are the companies operating mobile data channels. We have a hardware platform that will be filled with various services. Discussions are currently under way with a number of national and international service providers." An order was received earlier for Sectra's mobile information terminal from the Swiss finance house, Oceantrade, which will provide its customers with stock market and financial information in real time via CitySurfer.
