The Swedish IT and medical-technology company Sectra has signed an agreement with Instituto Portugûes de Oncologia do Porto Francisco Gentil, Portugal. The order comprises Sectra PACS products and services.

IPO Porto Francisco Gentil is a highly specialized oncology institute, serving the population of northern Portugal. The diagnostic imaging operations at the institute are distributed across eight departments including the radiology, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology, pneumology and gynecology departments. The institute performs approximately 85,000 radiology examinations annually.

Sectra PACS (system for handling radiology images) will serve in a totally integrated radiology solution incorporated in all areas of diagnostic imaging within the institute. Digitizing imaging operations will increase workflow efficiencies and provide radiologists with instant access to images and information regardless of location.

”Sectra has a very competent staff and has been truly attentive to our needs,” says Dr. Margarida Gouvêa, Chief Radiologist at IPO Porto Francisco Gentil. “They offer a tightly integrated imaging solution including specialized clinical applications for computer-aided cancer detection and virtual colonoscopy, a solution that we have found well suited to our specific situation.”

Since 1995 Sectra PACS has been in operation at Portuguese hospitals, installed by partners. Today, Sectra software has a market share of about 50% on the Portuguese market. Since September 2006 Sectra operates under its own brand in Portugal. In addition to direct sales efforts, Sectra continues to offer direct PACS service and support agreements to any customers that previously purchased Sectra products through partners.

“The agreement with IPO Porto Francisco Gentil confirms our ability to provide first-class products and service and support,” says Carlos Cardoso, President of Sectra Iberia. “We continuously strive to support our customers in the work with developing and enhancing the efficiency of operations with the help of our solutions, directly with us or through our partners.”
