Sectra successfully tested at 2003 Connectathon The Swedish IT and medical technology company Sectra, has again successfully demonstrated the ability to integrate its radiology image management system Sectra PACS with a majority of the world's other top medical software and hardware vendors. This testing was accomplished via an integration testing marathon, sponsored by RSNA (the Radiological Society of North America), called the IHE Connectathon. The Connectathon provides validation of participating vendor's integration work. In cooperation with over thirty-six other medical vendors, Sectra received full validation by the IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) for all profiles Sectra tested. Frederick Barton, Interoperability Manager at Sectra North America Inc. states "Our committee work and involvement with standards groups such as the IHE, HL7 and DICOM, gives Sectra a distinct edge in understanding and developing standards-based solutions that helps solve our customers' interoperability issues. We currently deliver day to day integration at sites spanning the globe, on systems that Doctors rely on for patient safety. That is the true benefit of running the Sectra PACS." The Connectathon facilitates the implementation of standards-based integration by the healthcare imaging and information systems industry. It offers vendors a unique opportunity for connectivity testing by removing barriers to integration that would otherwise have to be dealt with on site, at the client's expense. Companies taking part have responded overwhelmingly that this testing process addresses important issues in their product development plans. During the Connectathon, Sectra also devoted some time to working with SNM (the Society of Nuclear Medicine), successfully performing 48 of 51 tasks to help define next years IHE Nuclear Medicine Profile. "The strength of our PACS shone through in this testing," said Frederick Barton. This voluntary testing was designed to evaluate vendors' current conformance to the new IHE Nuclear Medicine Profile. The result of the testing completed for 2003 can be found on the IHE page of the RSNA website at www.rsna.org/IHE/connectathon.shtml.
