Sectra to develop new-generation crypto-modem for Swedish Defense Forces The Swedish Defense Forces has commissioned the further development of Sectra's encrypting modem. The modem will be adapted for operations in a tactical military environment, with high demands on for example waterproofing and impact durability. The order value amounts to SEK 8 million. Sectra has developed crypto-modems in cooperation with the Swedish Defense Forces. The new-generation cryptomodem will be adapted for a tactical military environment and to new demands set by the Defense Forces. Fore example, it must be possible to use the Defense Forces' new smart card for key distribution and user authentication (ID control) in the cryptomodem. Development work will be conducted through to the summer of 2005. "Adaptation of the crypto-modem to field conditions means that the modem's application areas will increase significantly," says Tommy Waszkiewicz, President, Sectra Communications AB. Sectra's crypto-modem is a signal protection system developed to meet all the highest security requirements. The modem protects data communications at traffic speeds up to 2 Mbps over many different telenets, for example, ATN, FTN, GSM and ISDN.
