Sectra to digitize radiology operations at Trelleborg Hospital The Swedish IT- and medical technology company Sectra has signed a contract with Trelleborg Hospital in Sweden, regarding digitization of the hospital's radiology operations. The order includes Sectra's system for image viewing, communication and archiving (PACS) and it's value amounts to approximately USD 870,000. The radiology department of Trelleborg Hospital performs approximately 35,000 radiology exams annually, and is currently using Sectra's radiology information system (RIS). The complete radiology operation is now to be digitized, and Sectra has been chosen to deliver also the image handling system (PACS). Installations will begin in spring and the radiology department is scheduled to be in full digital operations in the fall of 2003. "Sectra has a long experience of developing PACS, and understands the radiology way of thinking," says Dr Ulf Nyman, operations manager at the radiology department of Trelleborg Hospital. "We chose Sectra's system because it is very user-friendly. Another reason is the highly qualified integration between RIS and PACS that Sectra offers", he continues. With Sectra's system, the radiology department of Trelleborg Hospital will be able to work completely without paper and films. By handling requests, patient data and x-ray images digitally, a more efficient workflow is created. This contributes to better patient care through faster throughput of images and answers to requesting physicians. With the very high security level built into the system, this can be done without compromising patient integrity and security. "We are very happy to have been given the confidence to digitize the radiology operations of Trelleborg Hospital," says Herbert Grill, sales manager at Sectra Skandinavien. "It shows that our close cooperation with end-users when developing our systems enables us to meet our customers' high demand on user-friendliness and quality". Sectra is one of today's major PACS providers with more than 300 PACS installations worldwide. More than 15 million exams are diagnosed in Sectra PACS every year throughout the world. The Swedish based company operates through partners in most of the world, but delivers directly to end customers in Northern Europe. The core business is to deliver top-of- the-line high-availability, robust enterprise PACS for 24/7 operation. In Sweden and Norway, which are currently the countries with the largest penetration of PACS in the world, Sectra holds a dominant market leadership with more than 50% of all film free installations. The company has its largest number of installed systems in Sweden, Norway and the US (through partners), but has also an installed base in Germany, Finland, UK, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Turkey, Portugal, Switzerland and the Far East.
