Sectra wins prestigious mammography project Sectra, the Swedish IT and medical technology company, has received an order for a Breast Imaging PACS project from BRUMMAMO in Brussels, Belgium. The project will network multi-site clinics within the Brussels region. The pilot-project was initiated and funded by the Brussels Region authorities. By using Sectra PACS for Breast Imaging, about 30,000 mammography images from examinations at screening centers in Brussels will be diagnosed, transferred and stored digitally. In the Brussels region, a radiologist performs the first reading of screening mammogram images in one of the accredited centers while another radiologist does an independent second reading at the reference center. In the past, centers where first readings were performed sent analogue film images to the reference center by standard mail. The main goals of the Brussels Breast Imaging PACS project are to facilitate the exchange of images using new digital technology and to ensure a stable long-term archiving solution. "Sectra can custom fit their PACS to meet our needs with a sufficient flexibility. Their open platform, with focus on integration with other systems, seems to be state of the art and was exactly what we were looking for", says Prof. A. Grivegnée, head of the project. The order comprises a system for processing and archiving digital images (PACS) dedicated to breast imaging. The system makes all necessary information, such as images and patient data, available at the diagnostic workstations. This enables radiologists to perform their work productively, cost-effectively, and safely without compromising diagnostic quality or patient privacy. "This is Sectra's first order in Belgium for our Sectra PACS for Breast Imaging. It is a strategically important project won in competition with a number of other PACS vendors", says Dr. Torbjörn Kronander, President of Sectra Imtec AB. "This prestigious project for the very well reputed BRUMMAMO in Brussels is a good example of how the Sectra PACS system can provide tailor-made flexible solutions", Dr Kronander adds.
