Secure tactical radio for peacekeeping forces
FMV, the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration, has placed an additional order for Sectra’s crypto for secure tactical radio. The encryption is used by Swedish peacekeeping forces to protect radio communications from eavesdropping. The order is worth SEK 8 million.
Sectra’s voice crypto for tactical radio protects radio communications between vehicles and troops in the field from eavesdropping. The crypto product is flexible and protects communication over the radio networks Ra 180 and Ra 1512 as well as over IP-based tactical networks. The ordered crypto products will be delivered by summer 2010. “Encryption of defense secrets entails the protection of life and ensures that military forces are able to successfully complete their peacekeeping missions. Sectra provides the Swedish Defense and its task forces with easy-to-use crypto products that protect and increase the efficiency of communications,” says Michael Bertilsson, President of Sectra Communications. The Swedish Defense is investing in communications security. Swedish-led forces, such as the Nordic Battle Group, use Sectra Tiger XS for secure IP telephony in command positions and Sectra’s crypto product for tactical radio for secure communications between military forces. During 2009, FMV also ordered integration of these various crypto systems to facilitate secure communications directly between headquarters and troops in the field.
