Shared IT solution from Sectra results in cost-effective and secure medical image management
The Department of Dermatology and one other clinic at the Skåne University Hospital are now introducing Sectra PACS, which is already used in radiology units throughout Region Skåne in Sweden. The shared IT solution provides cost-effective and secure management of medical images. The new order is a suborder within an existing contract between Sectra and Region Skåne.
“By broadening our existing image-management solution for use outside the area of radiology, these clinics will also be provided access to a stable system with regional availability and high performance,” says Lars-Olof Almquist, Medical Technical Manager for Region Skåne. “Image management currently requires substantial manual work at the clinics involved and this new solution will enhance work efficiency and security, ultimately benefiting the patients.”
Non-radiological images are managed using Sectra Image Central, an optional addition to Sectra PACS. The implementation of Sectra’s solution not only results in economies of scale from a joint IT system, but the clinics also gain more efficient handling of image material and patient information for the physician providing the diagnosis. Other specialist physicians throughout Region Skåne can also be provided access to the image material without the need to travel between hospitals, such as in the case of multidisciplinary rounds.
