Sörmland County Council in Sweden orders digital image management from Sectra The Swedish IT and medical technology company Sectra has signed an agreement with the Sörmland County Council to install its radiology image management system at all county hospitals. Sectra's radiology image management system, PACS, is to be installed at Sörmland county's three hospitals, Mälarsjukhuset in Eskilstuna, Kullbergska Hospital in Katrineholm and Nyköping General Hospital. These hospitals are currently using Sectra's radiology information system for radiology departments (RIS), and they perform some 140,000 radiological examinations each year. The installation of the new system will commence during the fall, and the radiology departments are expected to be in full digital operation during the summer of 2004. "One of the reasons why we chose Sectra was their experience in similar projects, plus their ability to deliver high quality products on time The transition to digital management of medical images throughout all of Sörmland county is an extensive project that demands careful project management and is based on strong trust between customer and supplier," says Ante Grubbström, IT manager for the Sörmland County Council. In the initial phase, the Sectra system will enable radiology departments in Sörmland county to work totally paper- and film-free. In phase two, other clinics within Sörmland county that manage medical images will be linked to the system. The digital management of referrals, patient data and radiology images also creates a more efficient workflow, which contributes to better care. For example, referring physicians are able to obtain images and referral responses more quickly. "A total solution with tight integration between PACS, RIS and other IT support will enable hospitals to meet the demands of the future in terms of heavier volumes and demand for greater availability of medical images," says Mikael Enblom, operation manager at the Radiology Clinic in Eskiltuna and Katrineholm. "Sörmland is a customer with whom Sectra has a long history of cooperation, and we are delighted by the County Council's continued confidence in us to further develop their radiology operations," says Marie Ekström, President of Sectra Scandinavia. Sectra is one of today's major diagnostic imaging providers with more than 380 installations worldwide. Sectra's core business is to deliver top-of-the-line, high-availability, robust enterprise diagnostic imaging for 24/7 operation. In Scandinavia Sectra is the market leader with more than 50 percent of all film-free installations. The company also has a large number of systems installed in most major countries in Europe, the Far East and North America, in co-operation with partners. For more information, visit www.sectra.com.
