New waterborne UV cladding coating solution reduces drying time by up to 50 per cent, enabling faster production and increased productivity, while providing improved stacking capabilities.

Sherwin-Williams today announced the launch of a new coating solution for the exterior cladding industry. Laqvin Fast Dry WB UV, which is available in base and primer versions, dramatically reduces the drying time in the cladding coating production process.

Cutting the amount of time required in the drying process offers a number of benefits to the average cladding coating producer, most notably considerably faster production and thus significantly increased productivity.

“During the R&D process we focused on developing a solution that could deliver the highest quality finish with the fastest production time. That’s why we turned to our experience from the curing industry and in particular the UV drying process”, says Andreas Ehn, Product Manager Exterior, at Sherwin-Williams:

UV drying is a fairly common technique used in the coating industry but this is probably the first time it has been successfully applied to cladding coating. By adding UV drying equipment, most cladding producers can gain up to 50 per cent savings in the drying time of cladding, potentially even more. With UV lights, the drying time can be cut to as little as four and a half minutes on an optimised line.

Another major benefit of Laqvin Fast Dry WB UV is the improved stacking properties. As the cladding is dry and hard when stacked, pallets can now be stacked on top of one another without causing damage to the newly coated cladding. In turn this means there is a considerable reduction in the number of rejects and costly returns, which are common to the industry.

“Our solutions are renowned in the coating industry for their hard wearing characteristics and high quality finish, with Laqvin Fast Dry UV we’ve now brought this technology to the cladding coating industry and opened up new opportunities for cladding producers”, concludes Andreas Ehn.
