Prolific rally winning ‘Cossie’ for auction
The most successful Group N Ford Sierra Cosworth in British rallying history is to be offered for sale by Silverstone Auctions at its Race Retro and Classic Car Sale in February.
Stunning in its 1988 Ulster Rally livery, this ‘on the button’ car played a very important part in the British ‘Eighties’ rallying scene and has been estimated at between £27,000 to £30,000.
Fittingly the venue of its sale couldn’t be more appropriate as there will also be a live rally stage thrilling the crowds at Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire as part of the Race Retro weekend from 22nd to 24th February.
Nick Whale, managing director, Silverstone Auctions, said: “It’s not often that a rally car comes to market with so many prestigious category wins behind it, in this particular case making it the most prolific Group N Sierra Cosworth in British rallying history.
“We’re thrilled to offer it for sale at our first auction of the year at Race Retro on 23rd February. Last year we achieved a fantastic 74 per cent sale rate at Race Retro, which included many competition cars, so I’m sure this Cosworth will also attract a great deal of attention.”
Enjoying many category wins between 1986 and 1988, this 1985 model also contested both the Lombard RAC Rally driven by Gwyndaf Evans and the Manx International Rally in 1987.
Renowned rally preparers BGM Sport have recently engineered and checked over the car and report it to be rally ready.
Not surprisingly, there is a very comprehensive history file containing important period documents and logbooks. Meanwhile, all the safety equipment is 'in date' with the exception of the belts.
“Given the theme of the Race Retro weekend we have many race and competition cars for sale, but there’s also many classic and road going models catching the eye making the auction one of the highlights of the packed weekend,” added Nick.
