SkandiaLink to add new pharmaceutical fund On 1 February, SkandiaLink will be adding a new pharmaceutical fund to its range - Carnegie Medical - to meet the strong rise in demand for sector funds, most recently in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries. A growing number of investors prefer to save in sector funds such as IT, telecom, Internet, media, information and technology instead of country funds. This has been shown to generate higher returns on invested capital. For example, during the past decade, nine of the ten best-performing funds in the British fund market were sector funds. SkandiaLink's new pharmaceutical fund, Carnegie Medical, is managed by Henrik Rehnman. His track record includes successful management of the SEB Pharmaceutical fund - a top-ranked fund that is also offered by SkandiaLink. As well as Carnegie's competence, Carnegie Medical has a scientific advisor in the form of the Karolinska Institute, which awards the Nobel Prize in medicine each year. The pharmaceutical sector has provided steady returns from an historic perspective. Several factors indicate that this trend will continue due to higher volumes and low price pressure. SkandiaLink's customers can now conveniently choose from a growing number of high-calibre sector funds. In 1999 SkandiaLink added two new sector funds to its range, TIME Global and Goldman Sachs Global Technology. Prior to this SkandiaLink's sector funds included SEB Technology, Pharmaceutical, Environment, Raw Materials and Real Estate.
