Smartports signs agreement with Trumbäcken – building Sweden’s largest solar par for parking areas
Smartports has signed an agreement with the real estate company Trumbäcken to develop a large energy installation for parking areas in Borlänge, Sweden. The project includes 288 solar-equipped Smartports with integrated EV charging and a battery storage system of nearly 10 MW.
The project is planned for the property Palsternackan 2 in Borlänge and covers four separate parking areas. When fully developed, a total of 288 Smartports will be installed, all equipped with EV charging and the ability to integrate energy storage.
The estimated electricity production is approximately 815,000 kWh per year, making the project one of the largest solar installations in Sweden where solar panels are installed for parking areas.
– This project demonstrates the significant potential of parking areas that today are largely underutilized from an energy perspective. Together with Trumbäcken, we are creating a solution that both produces renewable energy and increases the attractiveness of the properties, says Johan Gren, COO at Smartports Sweden.
In addition to solar power production, a battery storage system of just under 10 MW is also planned. This could help balance the energy system and enable more efficient use of locally produced electricity.

The project is planned to be developed in several phases as engineering work and permitting processes progress.
