Smartports takes next step in France
The Swedish energy technology company Smartports is taking a significant step in France with the deployment of a pilot installation at the parking facility of Marolles-en-Hurepoix station, in collaboration with SNCF Gares & Connexions, a subsidiary of the national rail operator.
The project is carried out under a public domain occupancy permit granted by SNCF Gares & Connexions and includes the first installation of Smartports’ integrated solution combining solar energy, battery storage, and electric vehicle charging. The system will be installed at the station’s parking area, located 30–40 minutes from Paris. It transforms parking spaces into local energy hubs, enabling solar energy to be stored and used for EV charging without placing unnecessary strain on the power grid.
“This project is a great source of pride for us, and we look forward to contributing to improving the services available at the station,” says Isaac Junior Pete, COO at Smartports France. “Launching this pilot project together with SNCF Gares & Connexions – a true national institution – clearly demonstrates the potential of our solution to transform how energy is produced and used within mobility infrastructure.”
The initiative was driven by Smartports’ French organization and is now materialized through the implementation of a demonstrator.
“This is a major milestone for us, but also just the beginning,” adds Julian Lundberg, CEO at and founder of Smartports. “This project shows that we are capable of delivering at the scale required by large international players, thanks to the strong foundation built by our local team in France.”
“We are delighted to see this pilot project come to life at the Marolles-en-Hurepoix station parking facility. In a French context where photovoltaic deployment remains complex, this installation allows us to test an innovative solution to enhance the value of our parking spaces while exploring new energy approaches,” says Matthias Techer, Head of Photovoltaics at SNCF G&C.
With this installation, Smartports strengthens its position as a leading European player in sustainable energy and mobility solutions.
About Smartports
Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Örebro, Sweden, Smartports transforms parking lots into revenue-generating energy hubs by combining solar panels, EV charging, and battery storage. This creates scalable energy ecosystems that utilize existing spaces instead of exploiting new land, contributing to the green transition while generating new revenue streams for property owners.
