Södra continues investments and moves industrial operations towards electrification

Södra was first to use a heavy-duty electric forklift in the forest industry. Following a successful trial, the transition to an electric vehicle fleet is now accelerating. Four new electric forklifts have been purchased for the sawmills in Värö and Långasjö.

Södra is a net electricity producer and will be completely fossil-free by 2030. A natural step in this process is to continue the electrification of the vehicle fleet and operations. Accordingly, Södra is now purchasing four new, heavy-duty electric forklifts for the sawmills in Värö and Långasjö. The new vehicles are part of a broader initiative.

“We produce the electricity used by the forklifts in our own industry. They produce zero emissions and enable a completely circular operation. This helps us and our customers to continue contributing towards a sustainable climate transition. Our aim is to replace the entire fleet with electric forklifts. This is the future,” said Jörgen Lindquist, President of the Södra Wood business area.

Promoting digitisation
Electric forklifts have a number of benefits. Workflows can be optimised by analysing data from the electric forklifts and they have a much lower impact on the workplace environment compared with standard forklifts.

“The electric forklifts have the same power and performance as diesel forklifts, but produce less noise and vibrations. This creates outstanding comfort and a better work environment for our employees. The investment will benefit Södra, our customers and the climate,” said Jörgen Lindquist.
