Södra has been named the winner of Växjö Municipality’s Timber Construction Award 2025 for its long-term and sustainable approach to timber construction. The award recognises those driving progress in sustainable building and inspiring continued innovation.

With roots in the forest and a clear strategy for a more sustainable society, Södra takes responsibility for the entire value chain – from forest to finished building. Our solutions combine strength, design and a low climate footprint. One example is the production of cross-laminated timber, used in projects where the full potential of wood truly comes to life.

“The award from Växjö Municipality is a recognition of the efforts made by Södra’s members and employees to develop timber products that make a difference. We see it as confirmation that long-term thinking and collaboration are key to driving change in the construction industry,” says Maria Persdotter Isaksson, Head of Sustainability at Södra Wood.

Timber construction is one of the most effective ways to reduce climate impact. Wood is a renewable material that stores carbon throughout its life cycle and replaces fossil-based alternatives such as concrete and steel. By choosing wood, the climate footprint can be halved, while creating buildings that are both sustainable and functional. For Södra, it’s about combining innovation with responsibility – developing industrial and circular building processes, hybrid solutions and efficient building systems. Our ambition is to make wood the obvious choice for future construction and to strengthen Sweden’s position as a leader in sustainable timber building.

Södra was founded in 1938 on the idea that we are stronger together. We are now the largest forest-owner association in Sweden, with more than 50,000 family forest owners as members. Together, the members of Södra own a world-leading industrial operation that processes forest raw material into renewable products such as pulp, timber, building systems, energy and biochemicals. About 3,400 people are employed in our forest industry and in 2024, Södra generated sales of SEK 29billion. Our products are exported all over the world and together, we are contributing to a more natural way of living. Rooted in the forest, we grow the future.
