The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that a total of 22 people — 20 in the U.S. and two in Canada — have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Infantis from dry dog food.

The Salmonella infections were linked to dog food produced by Diamond Pet Foods manufactured at a facility in South Carolina. People began to fall ill between October 2011 and May 11, 2012 and they range in age from under a year old to 82-years old, according to a CDC update.

Six people have been hospitalized but there have been no reports of deaths.

Several consumers have already filed a product liability class action lawsuit against the company over the tainted dog food.
