AT&T Sued For Data Throttling

AT&T has been sued in a consumer fraud lawsuit by a man claiming the company unfairly slowed down his phone in an attempt to manage his data usage, even though he had purchased an “unlimited data” plan.

According to Associated Press, Matt Spaccarelli took his case to small claims court and claimed that his phone's data was being throttled - or intentionally slowed down - after he used anywhere from 1.5 gigabytes to 2 gigabytes of data within a billing cycle. The consumer fraud lawsuit claims that when a phone is throttled, web browsing becomes difficult to use and video streaming stops working, rendering the phone less effective than it was advertised to be.

The judge ruled in favor of Spaccarelli, awarding him $850.
