Baby Monitor Devices May be Dangerous to Infants

The federal government is warning parents that audio and video baby monitor devices with cords pose a strangulation risk to babies if the monitors are not placed out of their reach.

Since 2002, seven children have died and three were nearly strangled when they became entangled in the chords of baby monitors, according to CNN.

In response to these incidents, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association launched a baby safety campaign to warn caregivers and parents about the strangulation risks. Their key message is to keep baby monitors at least 3 feet away from cribs.
