Feds to Investigate Hyundai’s Shattering Sunroofs

You might want to keep an umbrella handy while you enjoy the sunroof in your Hyundai Veloster sports car: the sunroof may shatter and sprinkle glass on you.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports receiving nearly a dozen complaints of the problem in the Hyundai Veloster sports car from the 2012 model year, according to Consumer Reports.

Many reports allege that the roof-mounted glass broke while the car was being driven. The occupants have received minor scratches, states the NHTSA. Hyundai and NHTSA have started a probe to solve the mystery of the shattering sunroofs.

The NHTSA’s Office of Defect Investigations will determine if an official recall of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster is needed, which could potentially affect almost 18,000 vehicles.
