Ford Escape 2013 Recalled For Fire Hazard

The 2013 Ford Escape has been recalled again due to the potential risk of a fire in the engine.

The vehicle faces its second recall in a matter of months, according to HighGearMedia.com. This time the risk is that the freeze plug—also known as the cylinder head cup plug—may become dislodged and result in the loss of engine coolant.

HighGearMedia.com reports that as the coolant hits the heated engine, the water content of the coolant will evaporate. The unevaporated glycol residue is left behind on the engine block. This glycol residue is flammable and can start an engine bay fire.

This recall affects only the 2013 Escape 1.6 EcoBoosts and a total of 6,146 vehicles manufactured between October 2011 and August 2012 have been recalled.

The recalled vehicles will be repaired by sealing the existing plug adequately and fitting a secondary plug cover, free of cost.

Ford had to recall the 2013 Escape earlier this year over a faulty fuel line that could potentially start a fire in the engine.
