Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co has issued a recall for its Wrangler Silent Armor tires due to a tearing risk that could lead to car accidents.

According to Reuters, 41,000 tires are affected by the recall. The tires were produced in 2009 and come in six sizes. A reported 27,000 affected tires used in vans, pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles, and construction sites, are believed to still be in service.

In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Goodyear explained that "use of these tires in severe conditions could result in partial tread separation which could lead to vehicle damage or a motor vehicle crash."

So far two people have died from car accidents that involve vehicles with the recalled tires.
