The Kroger Co. issued a food recall of spinach sold across 15 states in some of its supermarket chains over concerns of potential listeria contamination.

The Associated Press  reported that Kroger is recalling the Fresh Selections Tender Spinach sold in 10-ounce packages with a use-by date of September 16. The company stated that returns of the recalled product will be given a full refund or replacement.

The spinach recalled poses the threat of listeria contamination. Listeriosis is treatable with antibiotics and symptoms include diarrhea, muscle aches, and abdominal pains, but it can prove fatal for those with compromised immunity, as well as expectant mothers, infants, and the elderly.

The AP reports that Kroger, Jay C, Pay Less, Dillon’s, Owen’s, Scott’s, Food 4 Less, Baker’s and Gerbes stores are affected by the recall in the following states: Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska.
