Mercedes Benz Recalls Vehicles Over Faulty Floor Mat

Mercedes-Benz has issued a recall for its all-season accessory floor mats used in the 2012 and 2013 ML-Class vehicles, as the floor mats can cause the car’s gas pedal to get stuck.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently received a form filed by Mercedes that stated that there may be 8,675 vehicles in the U.S. affected by the recall. The mats do not conform to the contours of the car floor and, as a result, may get dislodged and jam the gas pedal. When this occurs, there is an increased risk of the mat preventing the gas pedal from retracting fully and causing accidental acceleration, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

Though there have been no reports of any accidents or injuries so far, the owners of ML-Class should remove the floor mats as a precaution.

A safety system in the ML-Class model overrides the gas pedal when both, the gas and brake pedals, are applied. The company also said that the dealers will replace the floor mats for free.
