Monster Reveals State Probe into Energy Drink

Monster Beverage Corp. revealed that it will be investigated by the state of Virginia about its marketing, advertising, promotion, usage, ingredients, and sale of its energy drink.

A recent publication in the Journal of the American Medical Association entitled “The ‘High’ Risk of Energy Drinks” pinpointed various concerns about the marketing and consumption of energy drinks in the U.S., according to Seeking Alpha. The current maximum allowable caffeine limit set by the Food and Drug Administration for drinks similar to cola is 0.02 percent, but the limit does not apply to energy drinks such as Monster drinks, which contain seven times this limit.

Monster energy drinks are not the only popular beverages to catch steam in recent months. In March, the Federal Trade Commission began reviewing the popular malt liquor Four Loko after receiving a wave of new complaints.
