Onion Recall Expanded

An onion recall that was issued on July 18 in Southern California by Gills Onions LLC. due to a possible listeria monocytogenes contamination has been expanded to include multiple products and states.

The recall now includes diced, slivered, and whole-peeled onions and diced onion and celery mix with used-by dates on or before August 3, which were shipped to multiple states throughout the U.S., according to Fox News.

The expanded recall includes the following products:

  • A number of prepared foods from Whole Foods Markets in Florida
  • Trader Joe’s barbecue chicken salad, salsa, and balela in Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Southern parts of Virginia
  • Cool Creations LLC. bean dips and salsas in Iowa, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma
  • A number of Wegman’s prepared foods at three Pennsylvania stores

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious or fatal infections in children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems, according to Fox News. Symptoms include severe headache, high fever, stiffness, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

There have been no reports of illnesses linked to the recalled products.
