Prebiotic Formula Recalled Over Salmonella Risk

Eco Health Inc. recalled some florAlign Prebiotic Formula because of a possible Salmonella contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recalled product is in the following quantities:

  • 60 units of the 90 gram PREBIOTIC FORMULA (powder)
  • 40 units of the 180 gram PREBIOTIC FORMULA (powder)
  • 174 units of the 270 gram PREBIOTIC FORMULA (powder)

Salmonella contamination can cause infections with serious complications for people with weakened immunity as well as young children and the elderly. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, more severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis may occur.

So far, no illnesses linked to this product have been reported.

Manufactured by Irwin Naturals’ Northridge Labs and distributed by Eco-Health, Inc., the recalled product contains the following specifications on the label:

  • Dates of distribution are between June 2011 - Aug 2012
  • UPC code #'s FA02-90GM, FA02-180GM, and FA02-270GM

The recalled product should not be confused with Eco Health Inc.’s PROBIOTIC FORMULA which is a capsule, also marketed under the FlorAlign label.
