Smiths Medical Issues a Recall for Tracheostomy Tubes

Smiths Medical ASD Inc. has issued a recall for its tracheostomy tubes due to a defect that may lead to patient injury or death.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the Bivona Pediatric, Neonatal and Flextend tracheostomy tube has caused some customers to experience difficulty when disconnecting accessories from the connectors of the affected tubes. The tube may dislodge from the patient if too much force is used, leading to injury or death.

The tracheostomy tube is used to provide direct airway access for a tracheostomized patient for as many as 29 days. It is used in home care and health care facilities.

If you or a loved one has been harmed by an unsafe medical device, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact Sokolove Law for a free legal consultation and to learn about your options.
